Hola Muke: Bienvenido a WP. Ten en cuenta que la ubicación de tu imagen en Shanghai hace que desaparezcan imágenes (a la derecha de la ventana). El estándar de WP es que las cosas se puedan ver en pantallas de 800 píxeles de ancho. Es por eso que la mayoría de las imágenes no superan los 250 a 300 píxeles de ancho, a menos que sean anchas y no profundas y ocupen la mayor parte del ancho (de nuevo, unos 700 píxeles como máximo). Es un verdadero fastidio, lo sé, así que la mayoría de las veces me quedo con imágenes estrechas todas a la derecha, siempre usando la regla de formato de "pulgar". Si la imagen de destino es muy grande, incluyo un enlace a una intermedia (de 600 a 800 píxeles de ancho), que a su vez enlaza a las imágenes grandes. También uso un tamaño de texto más grande en mi navegador, alrededor del 150% de lo normal, por lo que a veces mi formato no se ve bien en tamaños de texto más pequeños. Creo que ya no necesitas imágenes pequeñas: las opciones de miniatura y "xxxpx" se encargan de eso muy bien. Lo que es molesto es cuando alguien reduce la miniatura al tamaño de un sello postal y la imagen tiene 3000 px de ancho. Como esto es lo que se desea (la política de WP establece que las imágenes deben tener una resolución alta para permitir el uso de material impreso), coloco una imagen de tamaño intermedio para que se vea más de cerca y luego hago referencia a través de un enlace a la imagen de mayor resolución. No creo que el diagrama del circuito esté mal, todas las lecturas que hice mostraban resistencias en los diagramas del circuito y no inductores. El problema con su edición original (y por qué reaccioné tan emocionalmente) fue que contenía demasiadas afirmaciones fácticas expresas e implícitas, algunas de las cuales son definitivamente ciertas, algunas de las cuales son definitivamente punto de vista, y algunas de las cuales son demasiado generales para un artículo específico de California; tales cosas realmente se aplican a todo Estados Unidos y deberían estar en el artículo Transporte en los Estados Unidos.
En primer lugar, usted afirmó que California financia en exceso las autopistas en relación con los sistemas de transporte público. Eso es correcto e incorrecto a la vez, según el período de tiempo del que se trate. Es completamente correcto si se aplica al período de 1940 a 1970 (cuando muchas líneas de tranvía existentes se cerraron y se convirtieron en líneas de autobús), y discutible en relación con el período de 1970 a la actualidad.
Tenga en cuenta que después de 1970, el Área de la Bahía construyó un sistema de tren rápido completo desde cero con una importante financiación federal, y San José, Sacramento, San Diego y Los Ángeles construyeron sistemas de tren ligero completamente nuevos, y Los Ángeles también comenzó a construir la Línea Roja del metro. Personalmente, conozco bien el Nuevo Urbanismo y los movimientos que promueven la vida en zonas de alta densidad y la vida cerca de los lugares de trabajo, y apoyo los objetivos de esos movimientos, pero no creo que tengan éxito hasta que se aborden los problemas bien conocidos de la vida urbana. Me refiero a los problemas que los habitantes de los suburbios han huido durante más de medio siglo: la falta de privacidad en las zonas de alta densidad, el ruido, la delincuencia, la seguridad, las personas sin hogar, la disponibilidad limitada de escuelas y parques de alta calidad para los niños, etc. Por supuesto, todas estas cosas se pueden ajustar, pero se necesita dinero, por lo que los centros urbanos están dominados por gente rica con sus guardaespaldas en sus torres de seguridad y gente pobre que no puede permitirse vivir en ningún otro lugar.
En segundo lugar, usted alega que la falta de financiación se debe a déficits de "derrame hacia abajo". Considero que el artículo sobre California es un artículo enciclopédico que debería mantenerse relativamente general, en lugar de entrar en una discusión extensa sobre la política o la planificación urbana de California (aunque usted o yo podemos encontrarlo interesante, la mayoría de la gente no). Esto es aún más cierto cuando muchos de los temas son comunes a los Estados Unidos en su conjunto.
En cuanto a mi perspectiva personal, los estadounidenses en general tienden a preferir vivir en desarrollos suburbanos de baja densidad por las razones que acabo de mencionar; como Neal Stephenson explicó con agudeza en Snow Crash , prefieren huir al "medio cultural para una cultura media" en lugar de vivir en la ciudad y ayudar a solucionar sus problemas. Aunque hubo mucha "fuga de blancos" racista en los años 60, los demógrafos ahora están notando una preferencia por los suburbios también entre los afroamericanos de clase media, que están huyendo de los centros urbanos de Atlanta y Los Ángeles y estableciendo sus propias comunidades suburbanas pacíficas (aunque segregadas de facto ). Todo el mundo ve el problema de solucionar el centro de la ciudad como un problema de otros.
A su vez, los estadounidenses (no sólo los californianos), al establecer prioridades de transporte a través de las encuestas en las que se basan los políticos, tienden a apoyar las autopistas en lugar del transporte público porque (1) las autopistas son lo que la mayoría de ellos usa para llegar al trabajo y al ocio; y (2) el transporte público simplemente no es rentable en las zonas de baja densidad donde los estadounidenses prefieren vivir.
Por ejemplo, al San Jose Mercury News le gusta burlarse del transporte público señalando lo difícil que es ir de un lado del valle al otro en transporte público (autobús o tren ligero) en comparación con conducir un coche. ¿Se podría hacer que el transporte público compita con los coches en el valle de Santa Clara? Sin duda, pero sería necesario que los autobuses y los tranvías funcionaran en todas las líneas todo el tiempo cada 5 minutos o menos para garantizar transbordos sin problemas, en lugar de las demoras de pesadilla de 30 minutos entre transbordos. Y entonces la mayoría de esos autobuses terminarían medio vacíos, incluso si una parte sustancial de la población cambiara sus hábitos de viaje; la población del valle es simplemente demasiado baja (poco más de un millón) para soportar una red tan concurrida. El transporte público podría ser más viable en el valle si las ciudades pudieran rezonificarse para densidades más altas, pero muchas personas que viven en el valle de Santa Clara huyeron de una ciudad de alta densidad (o visitaron esas ciudades y no les gustaron), por lo que la rezonificación es políticamente imposible.

No hace falta ir a San Francisco. Vivo bastante cerca del parque GG y puedo conseguir una foto de un puente colgante. Puede que tenga una foto de Japón. Puede que tenga una foto de un puente de cuerda de una caminata en Nepal. Lo comprobaré. Lo que propones suena muy ambicioso. Hola de nuevo. Como dije, aprecio todo el trabajo que haces aquí, pero hay algo que me molesta. Cuando agregas imágenes, agregas la etiqueta <center> a todos los títulos. Como puedes ver en esta comparación que hice, termina ocupando más espacio y luciendo extraño, ya que la mayoría de las demás imágenes en Wikipedia no están formateadas de esa manera. Ayudó en la galería del artículo del puente, pero en la mayoría de las miniaturas, no funciona demasiado bien. Descubrí Wikipedia hace apenas dos días y estoy tan fascinado que desde entonces casi no he apagado el ordenador. Es sencillamente la mejor manera que he encontrado para saciar mi insaciable apetito por todo lo relacionado con los nerds. Entre ellos, los coches eléctricos y, en general, el cruce entre la protección del medio ambiente y la alta tecnología ocupan los primeros puestos. Sin embargo, hay un punto: la foto sólo está en la Wikipedia en inglés, no en el fondo común de Wikimedia, y por lo tanto las Wikipedias en otros idiomas no pueden hacer uso de ella. Considera subir fotos al fondo común en su lugar, subir fotos no es muy diferente, y la inclusión con Image: es exactamente lo mismo. En cuanto a la última afirmación añadida a Inca Empire , puedo ver en el artículo de Toy que 67.150.33.246 (discusión · contribs ) copió dicha afirmación sin la prueba de una fotografía o sitio con información más evidente e irrefutable para probar lo que dice la afirmación. Si bien tal afirmación puede ser cierta, existían diferencias culturales significativas entre las culturas mesoamericana e inca. Los cuatro enlaces externos de imágenes que me dejaste para ver (y como tú mismo señalas) solo sirven para demostrar los juguetes no incaicos (mesoamericanos) utilizados bajo estas culturas, particularmente aquellos bajo territorio mexicano y no los incas de América del Sur. Es bastante interesante haber visto esas imágenes, si tan solo pudiera ver tales ejemplos utilizados por los incas para disipar cualquier duda. Es por esta razón que inicialmente pensé que era vandalismo. Podemos tratar de encontrar más fuentes de información sobre esto para probar aún más lo que afirma tal afirmación. Aparentemente, tenemos que trabajar un poco más en esto para lograr un diseño que se vea bien para todos. Por supuesto, pruebo el diseño en muchos tamaños diferentes. No tengo el problema que describes. Lo probé con varios tamaños de fuente diferentes. Pero esto variará con los navegadores y la configuración del navegador (hago sustituciones de fuentes en mi navegador). Con la forma en que lo configuraste, a menudo había un gran espacio en blanco entre el encabezado y el texto de abajo porque la imagen se colocó debajo del cuadro de taxo. El encabezado quedó cubierto por el cuadro de taxo, pero el texto no comenzó hasta la imagen. Intenté usar declaraciones claras, pero no pude hacer que funcionara porque el cuadro de taxo se extiende más allá de la tabla de contenido. Las declaraciones claras hicieron que el menú se colocara debajo del cuadro de taxo, lo que se ve terrible. Estoy planeando leer más en la sección de ayuda de imágenes para ver si se solucionó este problema. Te sugiero que pruebes otra solución que te parezca buena, y tal vez me parezca bien a mí también.
Lo mismo ocurre con la sección de vigas de celosía. Dejar que el texto fluya por el lado derecho provoca una situación en la que sólo quedan unas pocas palabras a la derecha si la ventana es estrecha. Parecía que el espacio en blanco era una mejor opción. Si tienes una mejor solución, pruébala. Se ha dicho que la mejor manera de convertirse en administrador es actuar como un administrador; es decir, etiquetar páginas de prueba con etiquetas de eliminación rápida, participar en Wikipedia:Artículos para eliminar y Wikipedia:Solicitudes de administración y, en general, actuar como mediador. De esa manera, la comunidad puede ver cómo responderías a determinadas situaciones a las que se enfrentaría un administrador antes de darte poderes de administrador. Simplemente vaya a User Talk:Ed g2s con Safari, haga que la ventana sea razonablemente estrecha y vea qué sucede: en una prueba, todos los enlaces se superponían entre sí; actualmente, solo se extienden fuera del borde de la pantalla, pero el fondo no, y los títulos quedan debajo de la imagen superior derecha. Por eso codifico a mano usando tablas. Si también puede verificar el ancho de la tabla usando la plantilla del historial, verá que es demasiado ancha (coloque una copia de la plantilla en algún lugar, haga referencia a ella en el artículo y obtenga una vista previa, pero no la guarde).

Lamento saber que retiraste tu solicitud de acceso. Creo que serías un buen administrador. También me tomé la libertad de leer el intercambio que tuviste con jpgordon sobre administración y edición. Estoy de acuerdo en que los nuevos administradores no reciben "capacitación" en absoluto: algunos administradores de sistema nuevos no reciben ningún tipo de consejo. Cuando me ascendieron por primera vez, recibí un breve mensaje en la página de discusión y una instrucción para leer las páginas relevantes. Si bien los administradores técnicamente son solo usuarios normales con algunos beneficios de limpieza, con demasiada frecuencia se los coloca en situaciones en las que son mediadores, solucionadores de problemas y guías. Ya me encontré en varias situaciones en las que tuve que guiar y enseñar a otros usuarios menos experimentados.
En realidad, esta no debería ser una tarea que recaiga únicamente sobre los hombros de los administradores: cada editor experimentado de Wikipedia debería ser capaz de mediar y resolver conflictos en una comunidad tan grande. Pero los nuevos usuarios a menudo ven la bandera de administrador como un signo de oficialidad, una persona cuyas palabras deben tener algún peso. Y esto no está funcionando, con los nuevos vándalos de alta tecnología, trolls y editores que simplemente alteran el orden. Hemos tenido más de unos pocos buenos editores que se han ido últimamente, y creo que esto se debe en parte a la carga que recae sobre tan pocos editores.

He renombrado la plantilla "Bridge3" a "Infobox_BridgeSpecificWithMap", cambiando las dos referencias de artículos (GGBr y SFOBBr). Al observar una ilustración de la torre central, han abordado el problema de estabilidad diseñando cada pata de la torre central como un marco en forma de A orientado a lo largo del tramo. Volví a mirar las dos páginas y sigo pensando que deberían fusionarse. Estoy de acuerdo en que la telerrobótica y la telepresencia pueden ser conceptos sutilmente diferentes, pero tal como están las páginas actualmente, esto no existe. Por ejemplo, las primeras líneas de cada página son las siguientes:
Telepresencia es un sistema humano/máquina en el que el humano utiliza... actuadores y sensores remotos para controlar maquinaria distante.
La telerrobótica es el área de la robótica que se ocupa del control de robots a distancia...
Yo diría que estas frases dicen lo mismo. Tienes razón en lo que dices en la página de Telerrobótica sobre la necesidad de una mayor sofisticación, ya que los retrasos en las comunicaciones hacen que el control directo sea poco práctico. Esto es lo más cercano a lo que considero Telerrobótica que veo en esa página. Tal como está la página de Telerrobótica actual, reitera en su mayor parte el mismo material de la página de Telepresencia y simplemente confunde el punto. Creo que la Telerrobótica y la Teleoperación deberían convertirse en subcategorías de la página de Telepresencia. Además, me parece que las aplicaciones de trabajo submarino y entornos peligrosos en la página de Telepresencia podrían ser más bien de Teleoperación.
Combinemos estas dos páginas débiles en una sola. De cualquier manera, fusionándolas o no, espero que estés de acuerdo conmigo en que estas páginas necesitan mucho trabajo.

Concerns: "Truss arch bridge" page. It is in my opinion not right to label the iron bridge at Ironbridge UK as a vierendeel bridge. This bridge was built in 1779 and was the first in the world to be cast in iron. Arthur Vierendeel was born in 1852 (ref.: [7] and [8]). Although the bridge is not built out of triangles and seems to have rigid joints the calculations to build the bridge could not have been based on the theory developed by Vierendeel. The only vierendeel arch bridge I know was located at Tournai (Doornik) Belgique (België) (ref: [9]).
The stresses are distributed through joints as in the viredeel trus, owing to the unit cast frames, but you are correct in challenging the use of the term in this case. The cast iron frames emulate a closely fitted wood structure, which would have let-in joins that would not allow motion at the joining pins. Warning messages on wikipedia are generally frowned upon as being both redundant with Wikipedia:Disclaimers and slipping too far into instructionalism. We shouldn't be instructing people to see a licensed professional in an article, since WP:NOT instructions, and we shouldn't need to remind people that the information is potentially unreliable since that's covered by the disclaimers. I find the notice to be ugly and overwhelming, since it takes up nearly half the image. Could you prepare a version without it, or should I just crop it myself? I tried nominating List of longest suspension bridges as a featured list, and got a bit of flack about unsourced images. The image police want tags like GFDL or PD, and they also want to know who the creator of the image is. I noticed that Image:RedSuspensionBridge.jpg was unsourced, so I added a line giving you credit for the picture. Hello Leonard. On the 8th of July I added the Rio-Antirio bridge in Greece under the "Notable Bridges" section, since it is the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world. Why do you want the main image to be large and in center? This won't be well received byWikiProject Automobiles as it is too personal and doesn't match well with the other automobile marque entries. Also, I will remove the first three images from the gallery (although there probably shouldn't be a gallery) because they don't seem to show anything unique to the X1 prototype. - Actually it isn't a marque is it, but still doesn't seem like a normal entry.

I finally got around at looking at the image sizing issue you mention. If you take a look at Wikipedia:Extended image syntax, you'll notice that it says If you specify a "frame" option the image will not be scaled, and no size specifiers will be in the HTML. The image will be rendered at full size. So your option is to just say [[Image:WrightspeedOverview4881.jpg|center|400px]] or use the thumb image type instead. With the version I mentioned above, you get:

My edit was mostly for the benefit of mirrors and other external users of Wikipedia content. Think about an answers.com article about the MDHP based on the corresponding Wikipedia article. The sentence about people editing "this article" won't make sense in that context, because answers.com articles aren't editable. That's also the reason for the external link: internal links in answers.com articles point to other answers.com articles. Hi Leonard, I've moved the article as requested. I also split off the part about the canyon and left it at the original location. You probably need to clean up both pages. The bucket and mop stays mostly in the closet. I do mostly what I did before becoming an admin. I spent quite a bit of time on a proposal to redo categories with User:Rick Block, which will probably happen if the developers ever get around to upgrading the software. I have not been very active for the last two months as I was travelling. The admin community is not really any different from the larger community, unless they are running amok, which seems to happen every now and then.

...A folk usage of portmanteau refers to a word that is formed by combining both sounds and meanings from two or more words (e.g. "animatronics" from "animation" and "electronics")
This does not seem to fit Gerrymander since there is not an apropriate meaning for the Gerry part in the word formation, as there is in "Animatronics". Any further thoughts?

I reverted your image resize in the Boeing 787 article. The standard thumb size is ridiculously small - I think that that is the size they are referring to not hard coding. Note that their example shows an image size specification and image size is shown in the referenced image use article. I think that 225 to 275 pix on a sideline image is still small enough for readable text layout on small screens (800pix) and is better since it does not force you to click the thumb to see the image content. - Leonard G. 03:43, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
I suggest you more closely read the manual of style, as well as the related discussions on the topic, as I respectfully submit that you are interpreting it incorrectly. "Hardcoded" means that the size is fixed - |250px| for example - and is not overridden by the setting in a user's preferences. If you click 'my preferences', and then select 'Files', you will see that you can set your default image thumb size. You may find the default too small; I, however, find 250 to 300px too large. By forcing an image size, it cannot be overridden by the preferences. To quote another user from a different discussion:

Hi, thanks for the message. There should be no remaining Swiss municipalties; all should have been created by now. What you might find is that there are a number of former municipalities that once had an independant status, but as a result of boundary changes are now part of a larger municipality. Augio, for example, is now part of the municipality of Rossa. Bernina has been creating coats of arms for the former municipalities as well, it seems. There is currently no en-Wikiproject to create these missing former municipalities, though by all means create them yourself if you wish.
Kreis (French: circule and Italian: circolo) doesn't translate well into English. Its literal meaning of 'circle' will not convey immediately to an English speaker the meaning: 'sub-national division', and I have seen it variously translated on Wikipedia as 'sub-district', 'borough', 'circle', and so on. Most, if not nearly all, articles about the Swiss Kreise have not yet been created on enWP. We have several members of the family that spent some time in Lockport about the time the canal was constructed in 1824/25. I am writing an article on the town of Lockport and found your picture of the original locks. Can you offer more information on the picture and the lock structure today? You probably know more about moving images to commons than I do. It seems you just have to copy them to commons and flag the old ones for deletion. If you want, you could just give me a list of what you have copied over and I'll delete the old versions for you. There's probably a tag for requesting deleting the picture, but I've never used it so I don't know. Use the same name on commons and It will replace the en: version when it is deleted.
As for a nomination for the mop, I'd be happy to, but do you really want it? I suspect you will get many of the same comments you got the last time around about not spending any time in Wikipedia space. I'm not sure you need it if you don't plan on getting involved in other peoples 3RR battles, vandalism patrols, and policy stuff. It is your choice, but it seems that Admin discussions have gotten much more intense in the last year and a half. Let me know what you decide. While I appreciate your moving the image to Commons, adding the proper binomial name, and updating my user page by fixing the sidebar image, you missed a second display of this in my gallery of weekly images. I attempted to add a redirect from the old name Image:JellyfishAtMBA.jpg but this failed. Perhaps this is a deficiency in the server software. As you have deleted the original, I assume that you have administrator status and will know who to contact in on the WP technical side. Try:Image:JellyfishAtMBA.jpg, this is the redirect and it is broken. The broken image at right will lead to an upload page. This is inconsistant behaviour from the server. Also adding a comment to the redirect page causes the full size image to be displayed on the redirect page! (not tested to see if this fixes the redirect problem)

Hi, I've noticed you have translated the Image:Schema Orloj en.png. Unfortunately both the original image and many of the translations are inaccurate / literal transaltions leading to terms never heard before (e.g. "ancient czech time" = Bohemian hours = Italian hours - see hour).
One way to improve it would be to use the terms used in Prague Orloj article - I hope it's possible to understand what is what from the text. But anyway... I don't think this is the best way - any change, including translation to other languages, means manipulations with the photoshop file, one copy per language needs to be created,....
If you're willing to spend some time on that - IMO easy improvement would be to create completely new image based on some of the free photographs on Commons, place numbered marks on various interesting objects, and describe the marks in text. That way it would be easily transalteable and any mistakes in translations could be easily corrected.
Even better but much more difficult would be vector drawing of the orloj in SVG - than, various "subsystems" could be diplayed separately in several images (like, in one image only "sideral time subsytem", "Moon" in other,...) --Wikimol 16:38, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

That would be a modified plate, as a standard "plate," otherwise referred to as a complete denture, would serve to prosthetically restore a completely edentulous dental arch (i.e. upper or lower arch). A complete denture is an example of a removable prosthesis. A bridge (and I see that you LOVE bridges), on the other hand, is an example of a fixed prosthesis (i.e. one that the dentist inserts and cannot then be removed by the patient) that fills a space by covering the teeth adjacent to the space to support a pontic (dummy tooth) for the space itself. I’m in my third year of college and I have been a Fu Dog fanatic for years. I came across your picture of the “Standing Ming Lion” while I was doing research for one of my speech classes. Your picture is of a Fu Dog unlike any I’ve ever seen. The Main difference is the fact that it’s standing and that its tail is down and wrapped around one leg. I was wondering if you had any additional information on that particular Fu Dog. And if you could help me to understand why Wikipedia has your picture listed as a Nian. The Fu dong in the picture looks sad and worried, that is understandable because it’s standing outside of a cemetery. And maybe way it is standing is out of respect for the dead? I do not believe that they would put a Nian (and evil and feared creature) out side of a cemetery.
I was also wondering if you could tell me your credibility on the subject of Fu Dogs, or if it is not rude of me to ask, what your level of education is and in what area of expertise.

OK this is how I understand this. Ming-style guardian lions and the Qing Fu Dogs are the same; they just change in appearance due to the artist that made them or due to how the Emperor (at the time) preferred them to look. I’ve ordered a book today that may shine a bit more light on this topic however it won’t be in for another week or so. However this is what I know about Fu Dogs:
They are part dog, part lion and part dragon; they belong to the Buddhist God Fo. The dogs kept away bad dreams; they would chase and bite the heels of the dreams if they came too close. They are good luck if you have the set and have them arranged correctly (that is to have the cub and sphere on the inside and the lowered leg on the outside). However it is very bad luck to have only one. They can be found in both China and Japan. Chinese have the male guarding the globe (symbolizing the World) and the Female guarding the cub (symbolizing family). The Japanese Fu Dogs have both with their front legs up on globes and their hind legs on outside.
I will let you know when the book comes in and if it says anything about Nian. but your picture looks like a Fu Dog due to his collar which is a symbol of authority and the way that the hair is arranged in his mane and tail (ment to look like flames). was there another one around this one? or was he by himself? I have not given up on researching this and I will let you know what I find as I find it.

Hi. When you uploaded Image:GDFRInstruments.jpg, you specified "image by Geoff Shepherd, uploaded with permission". Can you clarify on the image description page the permission you were given? In other words, did he say, "you can upload the image on Wikipedia" or did he say "I release the image under the CC-SA license"? In the case of the former, we cannot use the image under our image use policy - there are other places that republish Wikipedia content like ask.com and about.com and if the image is authorized only for Wikipedia use, then it causes problems for these downstream uses. Someone actually tried to move the image to Wikimedia Commons, but it was rejected because of this. Could you clarify exactly what permission the author gave you? "Federally employed" Navajos are not generally considered to be either impeccable references or worthy of paraphrasing as "common knowledge" particlulary with regard to anything Hopi. If you were as familiar with Hopi as you wish to appear, you would know that.
It would be the better part of valor for you to concede that you do not know everything about everything, moreover your professed knowledge in matters Hopi is clearly superficial at best. Were it not for an apparent very large ego, you might be honest enough to agree that you are not the last word on the subject.

The schematic animations were made through the collaboration with authors of the article of movable bridge in ja.wikipedia. I could not contribute to write the article, but have contributed to make the animations in response to their requests. I have made the animations of four types of movable bridges, which are well-known in Japan, and all of them are included in the gallery in en:Movable bridge.
After your message, I have published the source files in each image-talk page (commons:Image_talk:MovableBridge_draw.gif, commons:Image_talk:MovableBridge_lift.gif, commons:Image_talk:MovableBridge_fold.gif and commons:Image_talk:MovableBridge_swing.gif). I believe you can render it with POV-Ray, if you want. Each source consists of two files; a main file (the source file in each talk page, should be named 'drawbridge.pov' or something like this) and an include file ('vehicles.inc', only published at commons:Image_talk:MovableBridge_draw.gif), so that I can easily reuse the 3D objects defined in the include file.
Actually, I have an unpublished source file of retractable bridge like them. But I will not publish it because I'm not satisfied with its quality now. I had made the animation with "a ship and cars" as same as those of other bridges, but it seems unnatural for me. I've tried to remake it with "a boat and walking men" without success so far. Dear Leonard, you re-introduced a section into Ice age that I had deleted. I don't want to start an edit war, so I try to explain why I had deleted it.
This deletion did not happen accidentally while reverting vandalism. The section was a copy of the section Last glacial period#Overview. It was introduced into Ice age by User:Kaarel (see diff, who just copied it from Last glacial period and removed all references. Apart from the questionability of this edit it's just missing the difference between Ice age and Last glacial period. The particular section Ice_age#Recent_glacial_and_interglacial_phases deals with more than the last glacial period (see next section of Ice age).

You listed dimethyl ether as a possible diesel replacement and I am wondering if maybe you meant another chemical (there was another misspelled word that someone else caught)? I went ahead and removed the listing because there's no way you could ever use dimethyl ether in that manner - its boiling point means that by the time it got to room temperature the vapor pressure would be far too high to store in any of the standard diesel tanks now in use, not to mention being totally incompatible with the current diesel fuel distribution...
I wonder did you mean that it can be used instead of diesel or methane in a turbine, or as an aide to starting a diesel, or to clean glow plugs, or just kind of where that came from cause it seems like you mostly try to contribute good stuff and I'd like to help sort this out if possible. Hi Leonard! About adding images. If you jam an image under an existent image, and link it to the text, then the images above it (in this case two images above it), cannot project down beside the text, so they force a break in the text down to the place where the image is "fixed". If you are viewing the page on a narrow squarish screen, then the gap might be only a centimetre or so, and hardly noticeable, but on a wide screen there might be a gap in the text of 10 centimetres or more. This problem occurs also when text boxes are placed in the intro, or when someone inserts a pic below an existent text box. For this reason, it's important to preview your edit, and to look, not just at whether the pic is there, but also at what effect it has had on its surroundings. Remember that if your screen is squarish, then any layout problem will be greater on a wider screen.

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I'm using Windows. I'm glad you approve of the rearrangement. I agree entirely with what you say about the image sizes often being too small for artworks. I have an ongoing problem with some editors who continually edit down to thumbnail size, saying that this gives the viewer the opportunity to adjust the settings themselves. I disagree, because we ought to presume that the majority of people who seek info are not necessarily aware of how to adjust the wikipedia settings, neither do they all have accounts, and therefore preferences. When I insert pics, I try to mattch the size to the subject. If the paragraph describes a painting or work of architecture and requires the viewer to see the details described, then they ought to be large enough to be seen.
About "fixing the images to the text" . Sometimes a string of images will be placed imediately below a section heading. The images and text will float in relation to each other. If the screen is wide, then the images may project down into the next section. The lower images have no fixed position in relation to the text. But if they strike an image that is placed somewhere in the text of the next section, they break the text at that point. I'll try to set it up. .... I think this should recreate the problem. Hi Leonard, your recollection of a connection between Corning Glass and Tektronix display software is indeed correct. The software and communication protocol for Tek Plot-10 was developed for the Corning type 904 photochromic display terminal. And three of its designers were hired by Tek and moved to Oregon. Regarding your addition of diagrams to BYD F3DM, I have a minor question. Is the "M1" device used solely as a generator or are there modes of operation that employ this as a motor also (as when in ICE high power mode, or as a starting motor for the ICE)?

Hi Leonard G. Compliments on your modification of the ECG rhythm strip to make it larger and thus readable. There is a bit of a problem which you might fix as my computer capability is nothing like as good as yours. The problem is that the rhythm strip is described as being taken using "endocardial electrodes", but the strip and caption is under the section heading "Transvenous Pacing (temporary)", and "endocardial electrodes" are not "Transvenous". May I please ask that you start a new section, which should follow "Transvenous Pacing-temporary" and be headed "Endocardial Pacing- temporary", then to move the rhythm strip & its caption to the new section. I suggest the text for the new section be: 'Endocardial Pacing - temporary.' "Temporary endocardial pacing is used during open heart surgery should the surgical intervention create atrio-ventricular block. The electrodes are temporarily placed upon the exposed outer wall (epicardium) of the heart to sustain satisfactory cardiac ouput until a temporary transvenous electrode has been inserted." Hi Leonard. Regarding Reflection (physics): always revert vandalism, rather than editing it out. If you try to copyedit the article after it has been vandalized, it is possible to miss some of the damage. Worse, you can make it less obvious to other editors that the article has been vandalized, making it less likely that the article will be fixed. This link shows the difference between the article's unvandalized state, and the way you left it. Hi Leonard. I was looking into an unrelated matter, and noticed that some big chunks of the article Seismic retrofit (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) are word-for-word identical to some stuff on the external web site here.
The way I figure it, there are (at least) four possible scenarios.
The more I look at it, the more strongly I suspect that it's either 1 or 2 — but I gotta ask. If it's #1, then as author of most of the material you'd also be well within your right to notify the web site owners and encourage them (politely) to bring their page into compliance with the GFDL. Leonard. Per Wikipedia policy my explanation for nominating the article for deletion is stated in the deletion discussion page. For your convenience however I'll quote it below:
Article consists of a guide to preparing one's home for an earthquake. Wikipedia is not a howto guide.
I would strongly suggest that you refrain from removing the Afd notice from the article, as this is against policy. The very Guide to Deletion you linked on my talkpage states this clearly:
You must not modify or remove the AfD notice.
Also the Afd notice itself is clear:
Feel free to edit the article, but the article must not be blanked, and this notice must not be removed, until the discussion is closed.
The deletion notice will thus remain on the article until the discussion is concluded, which will be at 17:33 (UTC) on 10th August 2009 unless the discussion period is extended. If the consensus of the debate is to keep the article, the admin closing the discussion will remove the template for you. If you remove the Afd notice before the discussion is finished then it will be reinstated. If you think the article shouldn't be deleted, then the best course of action would be to state your reasons for wanting it kept at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Household_seismic_safety.

hello Leonard, sorry I Have never entered an on line encyclopedia to write or correct articles. I am a photographer, do a lot of 3D photographs and pictures of all kind. Your article about the picture of Foothill (LBLFoothillsBWAna.jpg) looks like colour picture for me, as I see it on my computer. On your description you said "the two images were converted to B&W", I wonder why ? Because you are using three channels RGB, that only colour pictures do have, not grayscale ones. And that's what you did. So my question is why converting to grayscale the pictures that you will use in colour. Normally, when I want to make a colour anaglyph I take the red channel from the left picture and I past it in the red channel of the right picture. Sometimes, when I need more details in the anaglyph picture, I use the green one or the entire left picture and I past it on the red channel of he right picture. As you are a major author of Solar tracker, and I'm very much a new contributor, I thought I'd draw the following to your attention and ask your advice on what you might do about it. An external web-page: http://www.solar-power-made-affordable.com/solar-trackers.html appears to be derived from the Wikipedia Solar tracker article. It's pretty clear from the Wikipedia history log that the Wikipedia article is the original and the 3rd party page is the copy: the overall structure and section headings are replicated and images used in the 3rd party page are lower-resolution copies of images published via the Wikipedia article. From details of the 3rd party page, it seems to have been derived from Wikipedia sometime on or after July 2010. Although there are many copies of Wikipedia pages, this usage appears to be at variance with Wikipedia's Terms of use: not only is there no attribution to Wikipedia or its authors or the original creators of the images, but instead the 3rd party has re-branded the content as "Copyright © 2010-2011 by Donald R. I haven't been spending all that much time at Wikipedia these days. I did take a quick look at the article and I'm impressed with all the work you've done on it. I think it could stand a a little bit of editorial work to shorten it as some sections are extremely detailed. I'd also suggest adding a table with basic facts (I want to know how wide the SAS span is!) It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.
Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).

This is really an awesome panorama, but it seems that you used a poor stitching software. Might I suggest using Hugin or some similar free software? Or, alternatively, you could upload the original single photos and I could create a new panorama (giving you due credit of course). I replied on the Talk:Rift. The two are not the same thing, grabens being parts of extensional tectonics regimes, but not the same as a rift. However, the Wikipedia article on rift is very bad, and it may appear from the two articles that a merge would bring together two similar things, but that is not so. Yeah, those are very nice images, but I agree with you that the images aren't really needed in the article since the most important needed images about the bridge are already posted in the article. Also, I can't believe that it's almost 2013! Once that bridge opens I am gonna be one of the first to drive on it on opening day (if I can drive by then) :D I've been following the bay bridge article for over 2 years now and it's amazing what the construction workers have accomplished in those two years, most notably the SAS. To help naval historians here at Wikipedia in the effort of writing and citing naval history articles sometime ago I created the List of ships captured in the 19th century and Bibliography of early American naval history pages. Over the last year(+) I have been tracking down and including names of captured ships and naval history texts for inclusion in either of these articles. I see you are still working on the Eastern span replacement of the San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge. As we are approaching the 2nd anniversary of the opening of the bridge, I think it is time to rename the article as San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge (eastern span), and edit it accordingly. Much of the language of the article is now in a strange sort of past-present-future tense. Here's an example from the lead...

Thanks for the reply. I don't think anything needs to be removed, and I agree with your ideas on reorganization. The "lightweight" stuff should be in the master article for both bridges as you say, and I think renaming this as "design and construction... " would make sense. This, plus some editing would make the article read much better. We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, Wikipedia and Wikimedia enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.
We will have no formal agenda to allow people to freely share ideas and perhaps learn about Wikipedia through hands-on editing. Co-organizer Ben Creasy will be looking at election-related articles to enhance the information available in the upcoming November elections.
Co-organizer Stephen LaPorte has suggested doing an upload-a-thon for Wiki Loves Monuments. Niki, the California coordinator for WLM will be in attendance. WLM is an annual event and the official dealine is Friday the 30th for submissions to count towards awards.
Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, or a stool and do your own thing.

The article Xenon (program) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Potentially fails WP:A7 per the web content clause but clearly fails WP:NSOFT due to lack of significant coverage.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.
In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.
