Las guirnaldas aparecen en numerosos poemas, incluyendo La Belle Dame sans Merci de John Keats.

En la Biblia (Edición Inglés Standard), en Proverbios 4:9 se describe la sabiduría como: "She will place on your head a graceful garland; she will bestow on you a beautiful crown."
