Murray Roston

Murray (Meir) Roston ( hebreo : מאיר רוסטון ; nacido en 1928) es un profesor emérito israelí de literatura inglesa en la Universidad Bar-Ilan .

Biografía

Murray (Meir) Roston nació en Londres en 1928. Roston se casó con Faith Lehrman y, poco después, emigraron a Israel , viviendo durante muchos años en Kiryat Ono y luego trasladándose a Nordiya , cerca de Netanya . Tienen tres hijas: Yardenna (casada con Alex Lubotzky ), Nina y Yonit.

Carrera académica

Roston ganó la Beca de Clásicos Abiertos para el Queens' College, Cambridge , y después de obtener una licenciatura en clásicos, se transfirió a la literatura inglesa para realizar un doctorado en la Universidad de Londres . Enseñó inglés, hebreo y clásicos en Carmel College (Oxfordshire) y emigró a Israel en 1956, para ocupar un puesto en la Universidad Bar Ilan , donde ahora es profesor emérito de inglés . Roston enseñó varias veces como profesor invitado en la Universidad de Stanford , así como en la Universidad de Virginia . En 1996, fue nombrado miembro de la facultad permanente de UCLA como profesor adjunto y posteriormente enseñó allí cada tres años, manteniendo su puesto en Israel. Investigación

Roston is an interdisciplinary scholar, author of a series of books examining how a knowledge of contemporary changes in the visual arts can illumine our understanding of parallel developments in literature. His Changing Perspectives in literature and the visual arts was rated 'Outstanding' by Choice, described there as: "A sumptuous book ... of paramount significance to literary studies, to cultural and art history, and to aesthetics".^[1] Milton and the Baroque was similarly described by the Times Literary Supplement as: "a study which itself partakes of the power and brilliance of his subject".^[2] He has published six books on the interrelationship with the arts, as well as a number of other books on themes ranging from the Renaissance to the 20th-century. His most recent book, The Comic Mode in English Literature, was rated, in Choice's annual review, one of the Outstanding Academic titles of 2012.^[3]
