Lista de pueblos de Bután

Las aldeas de Bután están formadas por grupos de asentamientos individuales, agrupados por chiwog para fines electorales . Esta lista se basa principalmente en información de la Comisión Electoral, que no necesariamente sigue el uso general. ^[1]^{: p. 8}

La población de las aldeas varía ampliamente, desde decenas hasta cientos de personas. En general, un mayor número de aldeas dentro de los chiwogs indica una menor población en la gran mayoría de esas aldeas.

Las aldeas de Bután están gobernadas directamente por los gobiernos de los gewog (bloques de aldeas), que a su vez están subordinados a los gobiernos de los dzongkhag (distrito) o dungkhag (subdistrito). Las aldeas de Bután pueden distinguirse de los thromdes (municipios), que son asentamientos más grandes que no forman parte de ningún chiwog y que pueden ser autónomos en virtud de la Ley de Gobierno Local de Bután de 2009. Esta Ley también prevé la redefinición de las fronteras de los chiwog y la reagrupación de las aldeas por parte de la Comisión de Demarcación para definir distritos electorales uninominales relativamente igualitarios. Muchos nombres de pueblos son recurrentes y pueden ser compartidos incluso entre asentamientos vecinos. A veces esto indica que se trata de un pueblo grande que se extiende entre más de un chiwog. Los nombres geográficos frecuentemente incluyen: wom ( Dzongkha : འོགམ་; "inferior"), gom (སྒོངམ་; "superior/superior"), (kha)toed (སྟོད་; "[valle] superior"), (kha)maed (སྨད་; "[valle] inferior "), nang (ནང་; "interior"), -gang (སྒང་; "cima de una colina, cresta"), -ling (གླིང་; "lugar"), -la (ལ་; "paso de montaña"), -thang (ཐང་; "valle"), -pelri (དཔལ་རི་; "montaña"), -chhu (ཆུ་; "río") y -dey (སྡེ་; "parte, sección"). ^[3] Las partes de nombres populares también incluyen choekhor (ཆོས་འཁོར་; " rueda del dharma "), dekid (བདེ་སྐྱིད་; "paz"), phel (འཕེལ་; "florecer"), phuen (ཕུ ན་; "completo, perfecto, maravilloso"), tashi (བཀྲ་ཤིས་/བཀྲིས་; "auspicioso"), goenpa (དགོན་པ་; "monasterio"), lhakhang (ལྷ་ཁང་ "templo"), pema (པདྨ་; "loto"), y norbu (ནོར་བུ་; "joya"). ^[3] Las variaciones ortográficas son frecuentes; en los documentos gubernamentales ciertas transliteraciones son equivalentes: "oo" y "u"; "ay" y "ey"; y en algunas circunstancias, "a" y "e".
