La segunda ronda de partidos de la AFC para la clasificación para la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2018 (y la clasificación para la Copa Asiática de la AFC 2019 ) se jugó del 24 de mayo de 2015 al 29 de marzo de 2016. [1]

Formato

Un total de cuarenta equipos (equipos clasificados del 1 al 34 en la lista de participantes de la AFC y seis ganadores de la primera ronda ) se dividieron en ocho grupos de cinco equipos para jugar partidos de ida y vuelta . Los ocho ganadores de grupo y los cuatro mejores segundos de grupo avanzaron a la tercera ronda de clasificación para la Copa Mundial de la FIFA, así como a la final de la Copa Asiática de la AFC 2019 .

La clasificación se basó en la Clasificación Mundial de la FIFA de abril de 2015 (que se muestra entre paréntesis a continuación). [5] Los 40 equipos fueron clasificados en cinco bombos: [6]

Cada grupo estaba formado por un equipo de cada uno de los cinco bombos. Los partidos de cada grupo se decidían automáticamente en función del bombo correspondiente a cada equipo.

To determine the four best runner-up teams, the following criteria were used:

As a result of Indonesia being disqualified by FIFA suspension, Group F contained only four teams compared to five teams in all other groups. Therefore, the results against the fifth-placed team were not counted when determining the ranking of the runner-up teams.[36]
