La fase de grupos de la UEFA Europa League 2012-13 contó con 48 equipos: los 7 clasificados automáticamente, los 31 ganadores de la ronda de play-off y los 10 equipos perdedores de la ronda de play-off de la Liga de Campeones . [1]
Los equipos fueron sorteados en doce grupos de cuatro, y jugaron entre sí en formato de ida y vuelta en un formato de todos contra todos . Los dos mejores equipos de cada grupo avanzaron a los dieciseisavos de final , donde se les unieron los ocho equipos que ocuparon el tercer lugar de la fase de grupos de la Liga de Campeones . [2]
Siembra
El sorteo de la fase de grupos se celebró el 31 de agosto de 2012, a las 13:00 CEST ( UTC+2 ), en el Grimaldi Forum , Mónaco .
Los equipos fueron clasificados en cuatro bombos según sus coeficientes de clubes de la UEFA de 2012. [3] Los campeones defensores, el Atlético de Madrid , fueron clasificados automáticamente en el Bombo 1.
- Notas
Cada grupo estaba formado por un equipo de cada uno de los cuatro bombos, con la restricción de que los equipos de la misma asociación nacional no podían enfrentarse entre sí. Además, el sorteo se controló para los equipos de la misma asociación con el fin de dividirlos de manera uniforme en los dos conjuntos de grupos (A–F, G–L) para lograr la máxima cobertura televisiva.
Los partidos se decidieron después del sorteo. En cada jornada, seis grupos jugaron sus partidos a las 19:00 CET / CEST , mientras que los otros seis grupos jugaron sus partidos a las 21:05 CET / CEST , con los dos conjuntos de grupos (A–F, G–L) alternándose entre cada jornada. Hubo otras restricciones, por ejemplo, los equipos de la misma ciudad en general no jugaron en casa en el mismo día de partido (la UEFA intenta evitar que los equipos de la misma ciudad jueguen en casa el mismo día o en días consecutivos), y los equipos rusos no jugaron en casa en la última jornada debido al clima frío.
Desempates
Los equipos se clasifican según los puntos (3 puntos por victoria, 1 punto por empate, 0 puntos por derrota). Si dos o más equipos están empatados en puntos al finalizar los partidos de grupo, se aplicarán los siguientes criterios para determinar la clasificación: [2]
- mayor número de puntos obtenidos en los partidos de grupo disputados entre los equipos en cuestión;
- diferencia de goles superior en los partidos de grupo disputados entre los equipos en cuestión;
- mayor número de goles marcados en los partidos de grupo disputados entre los equipos en cuestión;
- mayor número de goles marcados fuera de casa en los partidos de grupo disputados entre los equipos en cuestión;
- Si, tras aplicar los criterios 1) a 4) a varios equipos, dos equipos siguen teniendo la misma clasificación, se aplicarán los criterios 1) a 4) exclusivamente a los partidos entre los dos equipos en cuestión para determinar su clasificación final. Si este procedimiento no conduce a una decisión, se aplicarán los criterios 6) a 8);
- diferencia de goles superior en todos los partidos del grupo jugados;
- mayor número de goles marcados en todos los partidos de grupo jugados;
- mayor número de puntos de coeficiente acumulados por el club en cuestión, así como por su asociación, durante las cinco temporadas anteriores.

Las jornadas fueron el 20 de septiembre, el 4 de octubre, el 25 de octubre, el 8 de noviembre, el 22 de noviembre y el 6 de diciembre de 2012. [4]
