Edificios catalogados en Adur

El distrito de Adur , uno de los siete distritos de gobierno local del condado inglés de West Sussex , tiene 119 edificios con estatus de patrimonio histórico . La parte sur urbanizada del distrito forma parte de la conurbación de Brighton/Worthing/Littlehampton , y la mayoría de las estructuras catalogadas se encuentran en los tres principales centros de población: Southwick , Shoreham-by-Sea y Lancing . Las ciudades han crecido residencial e industrialmente en el siglo XX, pero las tres tienen orígenes antiguos como aldeas y mansiones en las orillas del río Adur y la costa del Canal de la Mancha . El resto del territorio del distrito de Adur es una zona rural remota de tierras bajas con granjas y aldeas dispersas ; algunos de sus edificios también tienen estatus de patrimonio histórico.

En Inglaterra, un edificio o estructura se define como "catalogado" cuando se coloca en un registro legal de edificios de "interés arquitectónico o histórico especial" por el Secretario de Estado de Cultura, Medios de Comunicación y Deporte , un departamento gubernamental, de acuerdo con la Ley de Planificación (Edificios catalogados y áreas de conservación) de 1990 (una sucesora de la ley de 1947). ^[1] English Heritage , un organismo público no departamental , actúa como una agencia de este departamento para administrar el proceso y asesorar al departamento sobre cuestiones relevantes. ^[2] Hay tres grados de estado de listado. El grado I, el más alto, se define como de "interés excepcional"; el grado II* se utiliza para "edificios particularmente importantes de más que un interés especial"; y el grado II, el más bajo, se utiliza para edificios de "interés especial". ^[3]

Actualmente hay 7 edificios catalogados de grado I, 7 edificios catalogados de grado II* y 105 edificios catalogados de grado II en el distrito de Adur.
