- 31 de marzo : La OPEP publica un comunicado oficial de su 104ª reunión (extraordinaria) convocada en Viena, Austria, el 30 de marzo de 1998. El comunicado afirma que los países miembros han acordado recortes voluntarios de los niveles actuales de producción de cada país en un intento de impulsar los precios del petróleo. La OPEP ha acordado recortes por un total de 1,245 millones de barriles por día (197.900 m3 / d) que entrarán en vigor el 1 de abril de 1998.
