En este caso, el editor no puede acceder, o no ha podido hacerlo, a la fuente que verifica la afirmación, pero en su lugar ha citado una segunda fuente que proporciona una cita de la primera. El uso de esta plantilla deja claro que hay dos elementos relevantes en la bibliografía.
Una posible razón para agregar una nota explicativa es dejar claro que la cita conduce a un ejemplo del hecho reclamado, no a la verificación de la reclamación en sí, que puede estar en una cita posterior.
