Stuart Schwartz was a long-time Senior Producer for ABC News known for his work on World News Tonight, Nightline, Day1, 20/20 and Good Morning America. Over his career, he earned 15 Emmy Awards, four Peabody Awards, two DuPont Awards, and an Overseas Press Club Award.[1]
Schwartz was the son of Sally (née Lasky)[2] and David Schwartz. He is a graduate of Lakeview High School in Chicago.[3] In 1966, he graduated with a B.S. from Northwestern University; and in 1967 with a M.S. in Journalism (1967) from Northwestern's Medill School of Journalism.[1] He worked as producer of ABC World News Tonight, Nightline, and the ABC Evening News and Weekend News.[1] He served as senior broadcast producer for the newsmagazines Prime Time Live, 20/20, Day One, and Good Morning America.[1]
He retired in 2009 after 41 years at ABC News.[4] After retirement, he took a position as an adjunct lecturer at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland.[1]
He is married to Frances Weinman Schwartz, an educator in Jewish Studies and author of Jewish Moral Virtues and Passage to Pesach.[5] His daughter is CNN journalist and anchor Dana Bash.[4][6]
she is survived by her sister, Eva Dolin of Glenview, IL; she was the sister of the late Gladys Mendelson, Sam Lasky and Sally Schwartz; and the aunt of Enid Ross of West Hartford, CT, Marcia Sigel of Northbrook, IL, Stuart Schwartz of Montvale, NJ, Dr. Edwin Dolin of Oak Brook, IL, Robert Lasky of Goodyear, AZ and the late Dennis Dolin of Chicago; she was the great-aunt of Dana Bash, David Schwartz
Dana's father, Stuart Schwartz, is a senior broadcast producer for ABC News. Dana's mother, Frances Weinman Schwartz, is a Jewish studies educator whose books include "Jewish Moral Virtues" and "Passage to Pesach."
