William Lewis (científico)

William Lewis FRS (c. 1708-1781) fue un químico y médico británico. ^[1] Es conocido por sus escritos relacionados con la farmacia y la medicina, y por sus investigaciones sobre metales. ^[2]

vida y trabajo

William Lewis, hijo de John (¿William?) Lewis, un cervecero, nació en Richmond, Surrey . Se matriculó en Christ Church, Oxford, el 17 de marzo de 1730. Se graduó como BA en 1734 y obtuvo MA 1737, MB 1741 y MD 1745. Ejerció como médico y en 1746 vivía en Dover Street , Londres, pero poco después Posteriormente se trasladó a Kingston upon Thames . En la inauguración de la Biblioteca Radcliffe en 1749, Lewis pronunció el discurso. Murió en Kingston, Surrey el 21 de enero de 1781 y fue enterrado en Richmond.

Lewis also published translations of Caspar Neumann's chemical works in 1759 Digital edition and 1773 (Vol. I & Vol. II), and (posthumously) of Hoffman's System of the Practice of Medicine (1783). In 1754 and 1757 he published a series of original papers on platinum: Phil. Trans. R. Soc. 48 (1754) 638–689 (Papers I–IV), Phil. Trans. R. Soc. 50 (1757) 148–155 (Paper V) & Phil. Trans. R. Soc. 50 (1757) 156–166 (Paper VI). In 1767 the Society for the Improvement of Arts, Manufactures, &c., of which he was a founder, awarded him a gold medal for an essay upon 'potashes'.
