Stadion Balgarska Armia ( búlgaro : Стадион „Българска Армия“ , inglés: 'Balgarska Armia Stadium' , literalmente ''Estadio del Ejército Búlgaro'') es un extinto estadio del club de fútbol búlgaro CSKA Sofia . Está situado en Borisova gradina en el centro de Sofía . El estadio cuenta con cuatro sectores y un total de 22.995 (18.495) asientos, [1] de los cuales 2.100 están cubiertos. La longitud del campo es de 106 metros y el ancho es de 66 metros. [3]

El complejo deportivo también incluye canchas de tenis, una cancha de baloncesto e instalaciones de gimnasia, así como el Museo de la Gloria del CSKA Sofía. La sala de conferencias de prensa tiene 80 asientos.
A finales de 2023, el estadio se cerró en preparación para su reconstrucción, que implicará una revisión completa y la demolición de las gradas actuales y la reconstrucción del estadio para convertirlo en un estadio específico de fútbol, sin pista de atletismo. Durante el proceso, el CSKA jugaría partidos en casa en el Estadio Nacional Vasil Levski , situado a sólo unos cientos de metros del Balgarska Armia.
Construido en 1923 para el AS-23 , el estadio fue conocido como Athletic Park hasta 1944, cuando el AS-23 se fusionó con otros dos clubes para formar el Chavdar Sofia. Desde 1944 hasta 1948 se llamó Estadio Chavdar. Entre 1948 y 1990 fue Estadio del Ejército Popular, y desde 1990 es Estadio Balgarska Armia. La estructura actual fue construida por el arquitecto Anton Karavelov en el período comprendido entre 1965 y 1967 en los antiguos terrenos de la AS-23. Fue reconstruido nuevamente en 1982, lo que incluyó la introducción de focos .
In 2000, the stadium was equipped with a new Dynacord surround sound system, capable of 48 kilowatts and 107 decibels. The electric lighting is also of the latest generation and is covering the pitch with 2100 lux.
Despite the improvements over the years, parts of the stadium are in a deteriorating condition, especially sector B, which has been completely closed down for spectators and covered with advertising instead, in order to hide the growing plant and fungi life underneath. The seating of the stadium is also in a poor condition, with many seats being either partially broken or missing completely, with the main cause being hooliganism over the years.
In 2023 CSKA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports established a joint venture, which should undertake reconstruction of the stadium. The reconstructed stadium will have 18,000 seats and meet UEFA Category 4 criteria.[4]
In October 2023 a building permit was granted by Sofia municipality. Demolition of the old stadium is expected to begin in early January 2024. The "New Balgarska Armia" ground will be completed for 18 months.
The last game on the old stadium was held on 10th December, 2023, between CSKA and Ludogorets Razgrad, ending in a 0-1 loss for CSKA. After the match, fans on the stadium were allowed to take a piece of the stadium as a memory from the venue before demolition begins.[5]
