Draft:Messaure Dam

The Messaure dam is a hydroelectric powerplant in the Lule river in the locality of Messaure (Lule sámi, Miessávrre), Jokkmokk municipality in the north of Sweden. Construction started in 1957 and finished in 1963 when it was opened by Tage Erlander, Swedish prime minister at the time. [1]

During construction there was a temporary village named after the site, Messaure, where most of the workers lived. When construction finished, most people moved out. Today no residence remains.

The Messaure dam is the third biggest in Sweden, and has an effect of 463 MWe.
